PP Pipe
Resins formulated for long-term hydrostatic strength rather than short-term stiffness. The material behind hot and cold water plumbing and industrial pipework.
Rated for fifty years, not for a tensile test
A pipe resin is judged by how it behaves after decades under pressure at temperature, not by how it performs in a short mechanical test. PP-R grades are designed around that: a random copolymer structure with a stabiliser package built to survive continuous hot water service.
That is why pipe grades are specified separately from general polypropylene. The melt flow is low, the molecular weight is high, and the additive system is doing work that will not show up for years. Substituting a general-purpose grade into a pipe extrusion line is a false economy.
- PP-R grades for hot and cold water pressure systems.
- Grades supplied with producer certification and hydrostatic classification.
- Matching fitting and compound grades available.

What decides the pipe grade
Pipe grade selection is governed by the pressure class and the water temperature the system is designed for, and by very little else.
- Long-term hydrostatic strength: the classification the pipe pressure rating is built on.
- Service temperature: continuous hot water demands a different stabiliser package.
- Melt flow rate: low and tightly controlled for stable extrusion and wall thickness.
- Stabiliser system: determines resistance to chlorine and thermal ageing.
- Weld and fitting compatibility: confirm against the jointing method used on site.
Typical PP pipe applications
PP pipe systems compete with copper and multilayer on installed cost, corrosion resistance and jointing speed.
- Hot and cold potable water plumbing
- Underfloor and radiator heating circuits
- Compressed air distribution
- Industrial chemical pipework
- Soil, waste and drainage systems
- Injection-moulded fittings and valves
- Irrigation and agricultural lines
- Prefabricated pipe assemblies
