PP Homopolymer
Pure propylene chains, giving the stiffest and clearest form of polypropylene. The highest-volume type we supply, covering raffia, film, fibre and general injection moulding.
Maximum stiffness, at the cost of cold impact
Homopolymer polypropylene contains nothing but propylene units. The regular chain crystallises efficiently, and that crystallinity is what delivers the high stiffness, good clarity and high heat deflection temperature the type is known for.
The weakness is low-temperature impact. Below about zero degrees a homopolymer part becomes noticeably brittle, which is why anything destined for cold storage or outdoor winter service usually moves to a copolymer instead.

What decides the homopolymer grade
Melt flow rate and nucleation carry most of the decision. Both are set by the process rather than by the end use.
- Melt flow rate: low for extrusion and raffia, very high for thin-wall injection and fibre.
- Nucleating agent: raises stiffness and clarity and shortens cycle time.
- Molecular weight distribution: narrow for fibre spinning, broader for film and sheet.
- Antistatic and slip package: needed for film that has to unwind and feed cleanly.
- Heat deflection temperature: the property that decides microwave and hot-fill suitability.

Where the part is used at room temperature and needs to be stiff, light and cheap, homopolymer is almost always the answer.
