LDPE
Low density polyethylene, soft, clear and forgiving on a film line. The grade most converters reach for when seal strength and optics matter more than stiffness.
Flexibility, clarity and a wide processing window
LDPE is made under high pressure, which produces a heavily branched chain. The branching stops the polymer packing tightly, and the low density that results is what gives LDPE its softness, transparency and low seal initiation temperature.
It is rarely the strongest option, but it is often the easiest to run. On a blown film line an LDPE grade gives bubble stability and consistent gauge, which is why it still appears in formulations that are mostly LLDPE.

What decides the LDPE grade
LDPE selection is mostly a trade between how easily the grade runs and how the finished film looks and seals.
- Melt index: low for heavy-duty shrink and thick film, higher for coating and thin gauge.
- Optical properties: haze and gloss matter wherever the product is seen through the pack.
- Seal initiation temperature: decides line speed on a form-fill-seal machine.
- Slip and antiblock package: required for film that has to open, stack or feed reliably.
- Blend ratio with LLDPE: most commercial film formulations use both.
